On the other hand, only 71% of the registered Republicans polled vowed to vote for Cox. Interestingly, roughly 22% of the Republican voters are expected to vote for Wes Moore. Independents are split 38% for Cox and 38% for Moore. The rest will likely vote for their favorite third-party candidate.

When Republican Larry Hogan formally exhausted his term limits, it was believed that Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford would soon become the frontrunner in the 2022 MD governor race. However, he announced in April 2021 that he didn’t intend to seek a nomination.
