Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin Mandela Barnes initially faced seven other candidates in the Democratic Primary, namely Milwaukee Bucks executive Alex Lasry, former State Treasurer of Wisconsin Sarah Godlewski, and former Wisconsin State Assembly member Tom Nelson.
Sponsored by many key Democratic Party members — including Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn — all the other major candidates withdrew from the senate race and endorsed Barnes.
He later earned the nomination after winning 77.8% of the vote.
